In many drought stricken parts of the world water restrictions could mean shorter shower times. An enjoyable hygienic one minute shower is possible, and getting into practice now will help the environment and reduce your water costs.
A one minute shower is fun and creates all sorts of situations to be laughed about, but make sure the shower base is non-slip, or buy a rubber non-slip mat. You don't want to have an accident. Before attempting the one minute shower, get hold of a timer, preferably a water proof version that is able to countdown in seconds. You also need a washcloth, loofah or scrubber, shampoo, and a cake of soap or shower gel.
Head To Toe One Minute Shower
Start running the water and set your timer. Get under the water for a few seconds allowing every part of your body to get wet. Wet your washcloth, loofah or scrubber and apply the soap or shower gel, then in quick motions, run this over your entire body, starting at your neck, moving down to your chest and shoulders, then around your arms before moving to your upper back. Next, move to your central torso, lower back, legs and feet. Take a few seconds to quickly rinse off under the water.
Your hair should be thoroughly wet by this stage, and is ready to be shampooed. A two in one shampoo and conditioner is quicker, but the following could be repeated using a separate conditioner if required. Step out of the water, and apply a generous bead of shampoo to your hands, lather it up, then quickly apply this from the crown of your head to the tips your strands. Work it into your hair, then step back into the water and rinse off.
Check your timer, you should have just enough time left to wash and rinse your face before turning off the water. Ladies who shave their legs, and men shaving their faces in the shower should turn off the water while shaving, and while you're at it, pause the timer until you're ready to step back under the running water.
The one minute shower will save on your water usage, reduce your monthly water bill, is great news for the environment, and could become a fantastic challenge for you, your family and your friends. Of course, using less water means there is less waste water for treatment.
